About Parasaurolophus
Parasaurolophus lived in the late Cretaceous Period, around 75 million years ago, in what is now North America.
Parasaurolophus were herbivores (plant eaters). It could walk on either two legs or all four.
Researchers estimate that the Parasaurolophus was around 9.5 metres in length and weighed around 2.7 tonnes.
Parasaurolophus comes from a family of dinosaurs known as Hadrosauridae that are known for having strangely shaped skulls. The Parasaurolophus features a crest on its head that forms as a long, curved pipe pointing backwards from the skull.
There has been much debate about the functions of the crest but these days most scientists agree that it helped Parasaurolophus identify male and females, increased hearing ability and also helped regulate body temperature.
