Parachute play is a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to group games with simple rules. As they listen to and follow instructions, children will be challenging social skills such as receptive and expressive language, turn taking and negotiations and collaborative decision making.
Through their play, children will also be challenging their motor skills. The fine motor muscles will be strengthened as children grip the parachute and the larger muscles will be engaged as they move the parachute.
As children become confident with the parachute, educators can introduce other resources, such as balls, allowing children to explore scientific and mathematical concepts, including force and flow.
