• A wooden, compartmentalised storage box
• 24 beechwood skittles painted in 4 shades of each of the colour red, yellow, blue, green, orange and purple
• 6 wooden stands to hold each set of skittles
• 6 colour boards with each of the shades from dark to light
• Suitable for age 3+ years 

Tips & ideas

This sorting task is a matching and sorting game as children use shade and colour to develop their skills in visual perception and colour identification.  With adult support, this is an opportunity to introduce descriptive terms and associated language relating to colour, contrast and shade.

As children continue to explore the sorting task, they can investigate their own understandings of contrast and matching as they mix up the skittles and colour boards.
