Children can experience the beauty of Indigenous Australian art with the charming moving forward rug created by Indigenous artist Melissa Henry. This charming rug is a wonderful addition to play-based learning areas for children to engage with, connect to stories and spark conversation about Indigenous culture. This beautiful rug has a 200 cm diameter and is made from 9 mm cut nylon pile with serge stitching, no-pull edges and a non-slip TPR backing. Each rug is treated to guard against odours, mildew and static shock.

The story behind the design
This beautiful artwork was created by Melissa Henry, a contemporary Weilwan artist. 
This design shows interconnected pathways and lines symbolising life’s challenges and the many directions our journeys can take us. The circle represents rest stops, places to pause, reflect and gather strength before continuing forward.

“In our culture these pathways reflect songlines; the tracks and journeys of our Ancestors that connect Country, people and stories. Each line carries knowledge, guiding the way and reminding us that every journey is part of something greater.

The meeting places and resting circles are symbols of connection, community and the moments when we come together to share stories, wisdom and support. The flowing patterns and earthy tones honour the strength of Country and the resilience that comes from walking in the balance of it.”
