Tips & ideas

The peg board is a visual introduction to a number of mathematical concepts including multiples, prime numbers, squaring a number and calculating a square root. Like all Montessori mathematical experiences, the pegs have been represented using the same colour code: green for units, blue for 10s and red for 100s.

For children not ready to experience the more complex mathematical concepts, the board can be explored as a patterning and sequencing experience. Children will also be developing their pincer grip and hand-eye coordination as they select beads to place on the board. Suitable for age 3+ years.
