The Story Behind the Design
‘“Living with the Land” symbolises the strong bond that Aboriginal people have to the country and all things living. Nature and the connection to country is integral to Aboriginal Culture. This connection gives Aboriginal people the responsibility to care for the land in return for the land nourishing the people.
This artwork is a whole representation of this relationship, the ‘U’ shapes all representing people who are undertaking daily activities living on the flowing river. The circles all represent meeting places, where traditions and practices are spoken and taught to young ones. There’s people seen hunting along the river with spears. White dotted lines travelling along the river between meeting places and at the top and bottom of the piece, these represent larger gatherings of family and main meeting places on this country where family comes together after a long day out on country.’
