The story behind the designs
Burnt Leaves, Fallen Trees
This beautiful artwork was created by Melissa Henry, a contemporary Weilwan artist as a testament to the profound impact of the 2020 Australian bushfires. Burnt leaves and fallen trees was all that remained. With hopes to raise awareness that cultural burning is needed throughout Australia. This design also honours the enduring strength and wisdom of Aboriginal peoples as we navigate and adapt to natural forces.
Healing Through Time
Created by Melissa Henry, this design shows the long journey of healing that flows across generations. Gently restoring and reconnecting back to the land.
“Each line carries strength and wisdom through from our ancestors. It shows our ancestors guiding us through times of pain toward renewal and balance. This artwork is a reminder that healing is not just for ourselves, but for generations yet to come.”
Moving Forward
Created by Melissa Henry, this design shows interconnected pathways and lines symbolising life’s challenges and the many directions our journeys can take us. The circle represents rest stops, places to pause, reflect and gather strength before continuing forward.
Inherent
This beautiful artwork was created by Val Smith, a Widjubal Wiabul and Arakwal woman from the Bundjalung Nation. This design speaks of the cultural traditions, strength and connections to Country that were given through Indigenous bloodlines.
